Clos des Papes' Châteauneuf-du-Pape rouge 2023, bottled in magnum, is one of the appellation's benchmark wines, blending all the permitted red and white varieties in the traditional Avril family style.

The nose is complex and layered, with dark cherry, garrigue, black pepper and a subtle floral lift from the small proportion of white grapes in the blend. On the palate it's full-bodied yet precise, with fine, well-integrated tannin and real freshness, finishing long and savoury.

Clos des Papes is consistently regarded as one of the appellation's finest estates, and this bottling shows the balance of power and elegance the domaine is known for.

Pair it with roast lamb, venison, or a rich beef dish. Aged hard cheeses are also excellent alongside it.

Drinking well from 2028 and with the structure to develop and hold for well over a decade.
