Château Poujeaux 2018 is a full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon-led Bordeaux red from Moulis-en-Médoc, built on dark fruit and firm, well-shaped tannin. The 2018 vintage brought a warm, dry summer to the Médoc after a wet spring, and that ripeness shows in the wine's depth and generous fruit weight.

Blackcurrant and dark plum lead, backed by cedar, tobacco leaf and a savoury earthiness that keeps the fruit honest. Air brings out graphite and a touch of dried herb, the sort of detail that marks out the Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend, which sits alongside Merlot with small portions of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.

The palate is broad and mouth-filling without losing its shape. Tannins are fine-grained but plentiful, running through a long finish of blackberry and iron, with acidity firm enough to stop the ripeness turning soft. Decanting an hour ahead pays off if you are drinking it young.

Roast lamb with rosemary and garlic is the obvious match, though this Moulis-en-Médoc red handles a dry-aged rib-eye, duck confit or a slow-cooked beef cheek just as well. Hard cheeses such as aged comté or cheddar work at the end of the meal.

Drink from 2026 through to the late 2030s, with the structure here suggesting the wine will keep gaining complexity across that window.
