Château Mont-Redon Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2019 is a full-bodied, dark-fruited red from the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation in the southern Rhône Valley, built on Grenache with Syrah, Mourvèdre and a handful of the appellation's older varieties. The 2019 growing season in the southern Rhône was warm and dry, and the wine shows it in ripe, generous fruit held in check by firm tannin.

The bouquet leads with black cherry and plum, then works into dried thyme, crushed pepper, liquorice and a warm, stony edge that arrives as the glass opens. On the palate the fruit is dense and sweet-edged rather than jammy, with garrigue herbs and a lick of cured meat running underneath.

Tannins are substantial and slightly chewy, framing the fruit rather than sitting on top of it, and the wine carries its ripeness with enough acidity to stay lively. Matured in oak for ten to twelve months, the 2019 finishes long and savoury, with mineral grip and a cool menthol lift on the back palate.

Serve with slow-roasted lamb shoulder, beef daube, duck with olives, or a mushroom and thyme risotto. Decant an hour ahead, particularly in the wine's first few years, and pour it a touch below room temperature.

Drinking well from 2025 and should hold and develop through to roughly 2035, with the tannin softening and the fruit turning towards dried fig and leather.
