Dr Burklin Wolf Riesling Wachenheim (2022)
1.5L / Wachenheim / Germany
Bürklin-Wolf's Riesling Wachenheim 2022, in magnum, is a dry village-level Riesling from the Pfalz village that gives the estate's home commune its name.
Lemon, green apple and white pepper lead the nose, with a chalky, mineral undertone typical of Wachenheim's limestone-influenced soils. The palate is dry and taut, built on bright acidity rather than weight, with the fruit staying fresh and citrus-driven through a long, saline finish.
It's a wine that over-delivers for its village-level status, showing the precision Bürklin-Wolf is known for across its whole range.
Pour it with grilled fish, schnitzel, or a plate of fresh oysters. It also handles the citrus and herb end of Thai and Vietnamese cooking with ease.
Drinking well now with a year or two of air to open out, and the acid line here means it will happily hold through to around 2030.
