Trimbach Riesling Schlossberg (2022)

750mL / Schlossberg Grand Cru, Alsace / France

The Trimbach Riesling Schlossberg 2022 is a bone-dry, finely drawn Grand Cru Riesling from Alsace, built on citrus and stony bite rather than richness. Grown on the granite and migmatite terraces of Schlossberg Grand Cru, it carries the vertical, chiselled shape that marks Trimbach's Riesling at every level.

Lime zest, white peach and grapefruit pith come first, with a wet-stone edge and a faint waxy note that will deepen with a few years in bottle. Air brings green apple skin and a touch of dried lemon verbena.

The palate is taut and narrow in the best sense, with a warm 2022 growing season lending ripe fruit weight that the granite acidity keeps firmly in line. Texture is more chalk than cream, and the finish is long, saline and unsweetened, tapering to a dry mineral echo rather than fruit.

Serve it with oysters, sashimi, poached ocean trout or a plate of Vietnamese prawn rolls. It also handles roast chicken with lemon and thyme, or a well-aged washed-rind cheese, with more ease than most dry whites.

Drinking well from 2026, and Trimbach see this Schlossberg holding for 10 to 15 years, so there is no rush on a case.
