Trimbach Riesling Hommage à Hubert Trimbach (2023)
750mL / Alsace / France
The Trimbach Riesling Hommage à Hubert Trimbach 2023 is a dry, finely drawn Alsace Riesling made as a tribute to Hubert Trimbach, who died on the second day of the 2023 harvest. Built from a selection of parcels across several Alsace terroirs, including granitic, schist and Triassic limestone soils, it is pure and taut in the classic bone-dry Trimbach idiom.
Tangerine and lemon pith lead the aromatics, with white blossom, green apple skin and a flinty, stony edge underneath. Air brings a little preserved lime and a fine chalky note that keeps the fruit in check.
The palate carries more flesh than the aroma suggests, a hallmark of the dry 2023 season in Alsace, which delivered ripe, generous fruit without pushing sugar levels. Acidity runs straight through the middle, texture is smooth rather than sharp, and the finish is long, savoury and genuinely dry. Pierre Trimbach made this one to be approachable earlier than the house's benchmark bottlings, and it shows in the wine's early generosity.
Serve with grilled whiting or snapper, sashimi, a plate of oysters, roast pork belly, or fresh goat's cheese with spring vegetables and a sharp vinaigrette. It has the acid and the weight to handle a mild curry or a Vietnamese herb salad as well.
Drinking well from now, with the structure to develop over the next ten to fifteen years for those who want to watch its citrus fruit turn toward toast and honey.
