Ministry of Clouds Riesling (2025)
750mL / Clare Valley, SA / Australia
The Ministry of Clouds Riesling 2025 is a taut, dry white from the Clare Valley in South Australia, built on lime and mineral rather than fruit weight. Delicacy is the point here, and the wine carries its intensity in a fine, crystalline frame.
Lifted aromatics lead with lime leaf and lemon pith, a touch of lavender and a saline, bath-salts edge underneath. The palate follows the same line: lemon and grapefruit, some green apple skin, and a chalky mineral thread that runs the length of the wine.
Fruit picked across separate passes and aged on fine lees gives the 2025 a subtle textural roundness, though high natural acidity keeps everything drawn tight. The finish is mouth-watering and taut, closing on lime zest and a dry, faintly stony impression that lingers longer than the fruit does.
Serve this Clare Valley Riesling with oysters, sashimi, king prawns off the barbecue or salt and pepper squid. It also handles Thai and Vietnamese herbs and chilli well, and works alongside fresh goat's cheese or a simple roast chook with lemon.
Drink the Ministry of Clouds Riesling 2025 now through to around 2035. Young, it is all citrus and mineral drive; with five or more years in the cellar expect the toast, honey and lanolin characters that good Clare Riesling develops with age.
