Schoffit Chasselas vieilles vignes (2024)
750mL / Alsace / France
The Schoffit Chasselas Vieilles Vignes 2024 is a dry, quietly detailed Alsace white made from old-vine Chasselas, a variety rarely bottled on its own. Light to medium in body, it trades power for freshness and a soft, chalky texture that makes it easy to keep pouring.
Aromas lean towards white peach, pear skin and a touch of orchard blossom, with a faint almond note underneath. The palate is gentle and rounded, carrying quince and lemon pith through the middle without ever turning sweet or heavy.
Acidity in this Alsace Chasselas is fine rather than sharp, giving shape to a wine whose real character sits in its texture — a slight saline grip across the tongue and a dry, mineral finish that lingers longer than the modest weight suggests. Old vines show here in concentration rather than volume.
Chasselas is a natural table wine, and the Schoffit Vieilles Vignes 2024 suits simple, savoury food: charcuterie boards, raclette or fondue, roast chicken with tarragon, pan-fried whiting, or a plate of freshly shucked oysters. It also handles pork terrine and mild washed-rind cheeses well.
Drink from now through to around 2028. This is a wine built for early, cheerful drinking, and it will be at its most charming in the first few years while the fruit is bright and the finish still crisp.
