Schoffit Gewurztraminer Rangen (2022)

The Schoffit Gewurztraminer Rangen 2022 is a powerful, off-dry white from the Rangen Grand Cru in Alsace, grown on the steep volcanic slopes above Thann. Honeysuckle, tangerine peel and rose lift out of the glass, carried by the smoky, stony signature the site is known for.

Lychee, ginger and candied citrus rind lead the aromatics, with dried rose petal and a flicker of woodsmoke sitting underneath. The palate is broad and deeply flavoured, running through poached quince, orange marmalade and a savoury, almost flinty edge that keeps the fruit honest.

Around 40 grams per litre of residual sugar gives the wine weight and gloss without turning it sweet, and the acidity holds the whole thing upright. Texture is the point here: oily, concentrated, finishing long and dry-tasting on mineral grip rather than fruit.

Serve it with Alsatian classics such as munster and cumin, or with roast pork belly and apple. It also handles the spice and aromatics of a Thai green curry, Peking duck pancakes or a salty blue cheese at the end of a meal.

Drinking well from 2025, and the concentration and acid line of the 2022 vintage suggest it will hold and gain complexity through to 2040.
