The Domaine Jean-Louis Chavy Puligny-Montrachet Charmes 2023 is a generous, creamy village-level Chardonnay from Burgundy's Côte de Beaune, built on ripe stone fruit rather than austerity. The Charmes lieu-dit sits right beside the Meursault premier cru of the same name, and the wine shows that borderline: broader and rounder than most Puligny, with the citrus cut still intact.

Clementine and white peach lead the nose, with white blossom, crushed hazelnut and a light toasty edge from the 25% new oak. Air brings out lemon curd and a chalky, almost saline note underneath the fruit.

The palate arrives in a wave — nectarine, yellow apple and a creamy mid-weight texture — before firm lemon acidity draws everything back into line. Fine, faintly mineral grip through the middle keeps the richness honest, and the finish is long, citrus-driven and dry. Chavy's holding here runs to half a hectare across three parcels, so this is made in modest quantity.

Drink the Puligny-Montrachet Charmes 2023 with roast chicken and pan juices, blue-eye trevalla, scallops with brown butter, or a mild washed-rind cheese. Serve it around 12°C, cool but not cold, so the texture has a chance to show.

Drinking well now and through to roughly 2031, with the acid line and concentration to reward a few years in the cellar.
