Pages Vedrenne Crème de Peche (NV)

700mL / France

Category: Wine
Sub-Category: Vodka

The Pages Vedrenne Crème de Pêche NV is a French peach liqueur made by infusing whole peaches, and it tastes exactly as that suggests: sweet, fleshy and unmistakably fruit-driven. Vedrenne has been producing liqueurs at Nuits-Saint-Georges in Burgundy since 1923, and this 700mL bottling is one of the house's brightest.

The colour is golden with a faint pink cast. The nose is all ripe stone fruit — freshly cut peach, a little peach skin, some floral lift behind it. On the palate the fruit is generous and juicy rather than confected, with the sugar carrying flavour rather than smothering it.

Texture is thick without being cloying, and there is enough acidity through the middle to stop the sweetness sitting flat. The finish is warm, clean and reasonably short, leaving a lingering impression of fruit flesh and syrup.

Most often it goes into a glass of sparkling wine for a Bellini-style aperitif, or lengthened with soda over ice on a hot afternoon. It also works stirred through a whisky sour, poured over vanilla ice cream, or spooned across poached pears and stone fruit tarts.

As a liqueur, the Crème de Pêche is ready on purchase and will not improve with age. Once opened, keep it cool, ideally in the fridge, and use it within a year while the peach character is still fresh.
