Jean Luc Mader Pinot Noir (2024)
750mL / Alsace / France
The Jean-Luc Mader Pinot Noir 2024 is a light to medium-bodied red from Alsace, built on bright red fruit and a fine, savoury edge rather than power. Grown on the family's certified organic vineyards at Hunawihr, it sits at the fresher, more perfumed end of French Pinot Noir.
Aromas lead with cherry and wild strawberry, backed by rose petal, crushed leaf and a hint of forest floor. The palate follows the same line: red-fruited and juicy, with a gentle earthiness building through the middle.
Tannins are fine and powdery, framing rather than gripping, and the acidity runs cool and clean from front to back. Texture is supple, the weight modest, and the finish tapers off with a dry, faintly stony persistence that keeps the fruit in check.
Pour it with roast chicken and thyme, duck breast, mushroom risotto, charcuterie or a plate of washed-rind cheese. A light chill of twenty minutes in the fridge sharpens the aromatics and suits warmer evenings.
Drinking well from release and through to about 2030, with the fruit softening and the earthy, undergrowth characters coming forward over the next few years.
