Domaine Lucien Muzard Bourgogne rouge (2024)
750mL / Burgundy / France
The Domaine Lucien Muzard Bourgogne Rouge 2024 is a light-framed, red-fruited Pinot Noir from Burgundy, built on perfume and drive rather than depth of colour or weight. Brothers Claude and Hervé Muzard run this Santenay-based estate, and their 2024 Bourgogne rouge is raised in a mix of tank and barrel, which lends quiet structure without dressing up the fruit.
Strawberry and cherry lead the aromatics, with raspberry behind them and a faint earthy, stony edge. The nose starts a little closed and opens with air, so give it twenty minutes in the glass or a short decant.
Tannins are fine and powdery, acidity is bright and keeps the wine moving, and the texture stays supple and fluid through to a clean, gently savoury finish. There is a mineral thread here that gives the 2024 more definition than its light body suggests.
Serve it slightly cool with roast chicken, duck breast, mushroom risotto or a plate of charcuterie. Pinot Noir at this weight also handles salmon and tuna, and it is a good red for a warm evening when something heavier would be hard work.
Drinking well from release and through to around 2029, with the acid line to hold the fruit steady for the next few years.
