Bremley Vineyard Gamay (2024)
750mL / Tasmania / Australia
The Bremley Vineyard Gamay 2024 is a bright, medium-bodied red from the Coal River Valley in Tasmania, built on crunchy red fruit and fine tannin rather than weight. Gamay grown this far south keeps its acidity, and the wine drinks with real lift and pace.
Aromatically the 2024 leads with raspberry, morello cherry and a squeeze of blood orange, backed by white pepper, dried thyme and a faint violet note. The palate follows the nose closely — red-fruited and juicy, with a savoury undercurrent that keeps the fruit honest.
Twelve days on skins after full destemming has given the Bremley Gamay gentle structure without any hardness, and ten months split between tank and seasoned barrels has added texture rather than flavour. Tannins are fine and powdery, acidity runs straight through the middle, and the finish is dry, peppery and clean.
Serve it with a light chill alongside charcuterie, roast duck, mushroom risotto or a Tuesday-night roast chicken. It also handles harder-to-match dishes such as glazed pork belly and spiced lamb skewers.
Drink now through to around 2029. This Tasmanian Gamay is already open and generous, though a couple of years in the cellar will let the spice and savoury edges come further forward.
