Westvleteren "12" is a Trappist quadrupel brewed at St. Sixtus Abbey in Belgium, famously hard to get and widely regarded as one of the most sought-after beers in the world, brewed in small quantities and rarely seen outside Belgium.
Dark fruit, fig and a touch of molasses lead the aroma, with a hint of chocolate underneath. Malt sweetness is rich without being cloying, bitterness stays low, and the body is full and silky, with fine carbonation that keeps it from feeling heavy.
Serve it a little below room temperature in a wide glass, on its own after a meal. This is a quadrupel built to age - if you can bear to wait, a few years in the cellar will reward you.
