Westmalle "Dubbel", a Trappist dubbel brewed in Belgium, pours deep amber beneath a dense, rocky head and carries a rich, inviting aroma from the moment it's poured, with a weight to it that suits slow drinking.

Dried fig, raisin and a faint banana ester come through on the nose, with caramel malt underneath and a light touch of clove. Bitterness is firm but not sharp, enough to dry out the finish, and the body sits medium to full with a lively carbonation.

This 750mL bottle is the one worth putting a few away for - a dubbel like this rewards a year or two in a cool, dark spot, though it's equally good served cool now in a tulip glass.
