Westmalle "Dubbel" is a Trappist dubbel brewed in Belgium, dark amber in colour with a dense white head and a rich aroma even before the first sip. It's one of the beers most people picture when they hear the word dubbel.

The aroma leans into dried fruit, banana and a touch of caramel, with a subtle spiciness from the yeast. Malt sweetness is balanced by a firm, dry bitterness, and the body is medium-full with a crisp carbonation that keeps it from feeling heavy.

Serve it cool rather than cold in a tulip glass, on its own by the fire. It's lovely young, and a dubbel like this will also hold its own with a little time in the cellar.
