Rochefort 6

330mL / Belgium / Bottles

Category: Beer
Sub-Category: International

Rochefort "6" is a Trappist dubbel brewed in Belgium, the lightest of the abbey's three core beers and named in the old style according to original gravity, with "6" marking the entry point into the range.

Expect dark fruit and caramel on the nose, with a soft background of clove and dried fig. Malt sweetness leads the way, hops stay firmly in a supporting role, and the bitterness is gentle rather than sharp. The body is medium, with a fine, almost creamy carbonation that keeps it easy to drink.

Serve it cool rather than cold, in a tulip glass if you have one. It drinks well young, though a few months in the cellar will only round out the dark fruit character further.
