Pauwel Kwak Original is a Belgian amber ale brewed in Belgium, the same rich, caramel-toned beer behind the brand's famous round-bottomed glass, bottled here at 750mL for sharing rather than drinking solo.

Toffee and caramel malt sit at the centre, with dark fruit and a faint liquorice note and a noticeable but not harsh warmth from the 8.4% ABV. The body is full and the carbonation gentle, with bitterness staying well out of the way of the malt.

A 750mL bottle is built for the table rather than one glass, so pour it out and share it - cool rather than cold, in tulip glasses if the famous stand and glass aren't to hand. There's no need to let it sit; it's at its best opened and shared fresh.
