Kasteelbier Rouge is a Belgian strong dark ale brewed in Belgium with cherries worked into the fruiting, giving the beer a distinct red-fruit character on top of its dark malt base.

Cherry and dark plum lead the aroma, backed by a toffee-ish malt sweetness and a soft, almost port-like warmth from the 8% ABV. Body is full and smooth, carbonation gentle, and bitterness barely registers - this is a beer built around fruit and malt rather than hops.

Serve it a touch below room temperature in a tulip or snifter glass. The cherry character is at its brightest in a young bottle, so there's no real need to hold onto it.
