Paulaner Hefe Weisse is a Bavarian wheat beer - a classic unfiltered Hefeweizen - at 5.5%, hazy pale gold under a thick, long-lasting white head.

The aroma is the style's calling card: ripe banana and clove from the yeast, with a soft wheat sweetness underneath and barely any bitterness to get in the way. The body is full and smooth, with fine, persistent carbonation that keeps it feeling lively rather than heavy, and a faint doughy note running through the malt.

Serve it cold in a tall weizen glass if you have one, giving the last cloudy inch in the can a swirl before you pour so the yeast comes through properly. Like most wheat beers it's at its best drunk fresh and young rather than left to sit.
